Worship at FVJC

Our service is rooted in Reform Judaism, combined with many elements of our rich and eclectic Jewish heritage. During Shabbat and Festival Services we now use the new Reform prayer book, "Mishkan T'filah." Click here to read more about the new prayer book. We also utilize creative and new worship services written by the Rabbi and Cantor.

We integrate Hebrew into our service and we vary our music in an attempt to formulate a unique blend of traditional and contemporary prayers. We encourage singing and participation at services. We are blessed with a highly innovative and talented Cantor who brings to our service a rich variety of Jewish musical experience.

Our main service is on Friday evening at 7:30pm, at which time the Torah is read. Throughout the month, we also hold:

  • Family Worship Experiences developed by the Rabbi, Cantor and religious school teachers specifically for family participation. These are typically attended by school age children and their families.
  • Junior Congregation services are held about 3 times a year. These services are designed to include and engage older school-aged children, typically second through seventh graders, and their families.
  • "Kids Shabbat" program on the first Friday of each month, specifically designed to acquaint pre-schoolers through first graders and their families with prayer and the Sabbath. Check our calendar on the right for details about the next Kids Shabbat.
  • Kabbalat Shabbats the second Friday of each month, which begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by a picnic dinner.
  • Music Shabbats, featuring Klezmer and other cultural favorites. Click here for more information.
  • Shabbat Morning Service, the first Saturday morning of each month (October through June), this lay-led service features a different topic for discussion and an opportunity for a close-knit spiritual experience.

Throughout the year, we host community-wide festivals to celebrate our varied cultural and historical holidays. Check out our calendar to find out what's happening next.

Our Evening Services are followed by an Oneg Shabbat. On occasion, special programs are offered during the Oneg Shabbat to enhance our Jewish, religious and Sabbath experience.
