FVJC-Emek Shalom, the light of the Jewish community in the Farmington ValleyNews from Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation-Emek Shalom

This Week at FVJC-Emek Shalom:

Address Clarification

The address of the Temple is 55 Bushy Hill Rd., Simsbury, CT 06070. It was printed incorrectly in the Temple directory and included the old P.O. Box, which has not been in use for 8 years. Please do not include “P.O. Box 277” when sending mail to the Temple. Thank you!

Soul Food Series

Our first course of the Soul Food Series will take place this Sunday, October 26, from 10:30 to 12 at the temple. This introduction to Digital Photography will be presented by Rob Hyner. No experience is necessary, and all congregants and friends are invited to attend.

“A Future Beyond Genocide: Hope for Darfur”

Please join us at the Connecticut Coalition to Save Darfur’s upcoming event titled “A Future Beyond Genocide: Hope for Darfur.” The event will be held on Sunday, November 2nd from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at St. Thomas Seminary, 467 Bloomfield Avenue, Bloomfield, CT. In addition to fascinating speakers, there will be an opportunity to meet with members of the Sudanese refugee community. Click here for more information.

Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive

With the on-going financial crisis, I think we all know who will be suffering first and longest. It will be the people at the bottom of the
economic spectrum. Now, more than ever, we have to be responsible to our fellow struggling citizens. So please be extra generous this year for our Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and let's show our children the meaning of tikkun olam.

We will collect food for the Thanksgiving Food Drive between Wednesday, November 12 and through Sunday, November 23. Each Religious school grade is asked to bring the items noted below. Congregants without children in Religious School should feel free to donate any of the items below:

Kindergarten Cranberry Sauce
First Grade Stuffing Mix
Second Grade Canned vegetables
Third Grade Canned gravy
Fourth Grade Canned vegetables
Fifth Grade Bread or cake mix
Sixth Grade Boxed Instant Potatoes
Seventh Grade Bottles of Apple or Cranberry Juice

All donations will go to Foodshare of Greater Hartford, which manages a huge Thanksgiving drive every year. On behalf of Food Share and FVJC, we offer a sincere THANK YOU for making this a success.
