Music Shabbat

Music Shabbat at FVJC
Join us on Friday, December 5, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. The Simsbury Light Opera Chorus will be our guests at this special Shabbat service. This chorus of more than 30 voices have appeared in many special venues such as the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the CBS "Good Morning Show," the Connecticut Governor's Mansion, and the Wadsworth Atheneum's Festival of the Trees. Congregation member Lou Norton is a part of this group and we thank him for bringing them to FVJC-Emek Shalom to enhance our service with their Jewish music selections.

Kids Shabbat

On December 5th, all families are invited to celebrate Channukah with our Kids Shabbat Program. We will have a short, kid-friendly Shabbat service, followed by a traditional chanukkah dinner, topped off with a rousing game of dreidel.

Cost: $7 per adult $3 per child Program begins at 5:45 p.m. Your check is your reservation – please note, if your child is an infant and will not be eating the dinner , there is no need to pay for that child. However, please let us know he/she will be coming so we can have the correct number of chairs at the tables. Deadline for reservations is December 1st. Questions? Toy Drive for CCMC

Kids Helping Kids: 7th Grade Toy Drive for CCMC. Please bring a new and 'in-the-box' toy, game or book for children between birth and 18. The drive will run through December 3rd.

Cold Weather Clothes Drive

The 7th grade will again be coordinating our Winter Clothing Drive this year. All winter clothes, outer wear and indoor wear, for adults and children are needed. Please bring any items you can spare to the synagogue between December 7 and 21.

Holiday Gift Sales

On December 7 during Religious School, stock up on your Hanukkah items and gifts at the Sisterhood Holiday Sale.

In addition to the selection of Judaica, scarves and matching headbands are designed and hand knitted by me, and made of 100% natural fibers in an array of different colors and styles, including some with vintage buttons by our own Amy Hecht. They are priced at least half of those sold in the department stores like JCrew, and Macys. Cupcake style baby hats for girls and boys that have been a big hit for new moms. Amy is generously donating 20% of her sale to the Sisterhood.

The JCC/FVJC Early Childhood Center's Scholastic Book Fair will also be running on December 7 during Religious School hours. The Fair will continue during school hours, 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, December 8 to 12, and end on December 14.

Chai Center Chanukah Activities at Simsbury Celebrates
Saturday, November 29, 5:30 - 7:30 pm At Eno Hall, 754 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury

Make your own edible dreidel, decorate a Chanukah card for Jewish soldiers serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, play the dreidel game and taste gourmet olive oil. Autism Awareness Bootcamp

Build your autism awareness muscle and support those in your community touched by the disorder! One in 150 children is impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Presented by Shannon Knall, Autism Speaks Connecticut Advocacy Chair and mom to a son with autism (and FVJC-JCC preschool student), this Autism Awareness Bootcamp provides a forum for open and honest discussion about the disorder.

Free and open to the public, the Bootcamp will take place at FVJC-Emek Shalom at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 8. Please RSVP by December 3 to Shannon at 860-573-7600 or sknall@mac.com.
