The Jewish Community Relations Council, the public affairs voice of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, in collaboration with the Jewish Federation Association of CT and FVJC-Emek Shalom, invites you to a special leadership breakfast with Congressman Chris Murphy.
Congressman Murphy is currently on a bipartisan mission to Israel, Egypt, and Turkey, with eight members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Click here for an article from JTA describing the mission. He returns this weekend and will be joining us for a special briefing on his trip. Please join us January 12, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. at 55 Bushy Hill Road, Simsbury, CT RSVP to Jo LaRocco 860-727-6169 Email: jlarocco@jewishhartford.org.
Please join the FVJC Religious School Family Education Program on January 17, 2010, as we welcome Mrs. Elizabeth Kaplan, FVJC member and Holocaust Survivor, and Mrs. Dodi Cole, recipient of Yad Vashem's Righteous Among the Nations award. They will share their personal stories about their experiences during World War II. The opportunity to hear from people who are willing and able to share living witness is increasingly rare; we are extraordinarily grateful to Mrs. Kaplan and Mrs. Cole for their willingness to speak with us.
Students in the 6th and 7th grade and their parents will have a private audience with our guests at 9AM. Adult guests and students in grades 6 and up are invited to come at 9:45 for light refreshments, followed by our speakers at 10:00 and conclude no later than 12:00 with a brief Memorial Service. Please RSVP to Terry Wolfisch Cole at wolfisch@sbcglobal.net by January 13.
Please join us Friday, January 8, following the Kabbalat Shabbat service, for an educational and uplifting presentation by Krista Colletta, Director of Volunteers and Community Service for the Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity. Ms. Colletta will speak to us about the need for affordable housing and the many volunteer opportunities that are available. If you are coming for Kabbalat Shabbat, remember to bring a boxed dinner. If you will just be joining us for the Habitat presentation, Ms. Colletta's remarks will begin at approximately 7:40 pm. For questions, please contact Sue Lerner at 860-404-8884.

Join us for a presentation about how to deal with the emotional challenges involving with aging, facilitated by Chuck Wolfe and Kathy Lucas on January 10 from 9:30 – 11:00 AM
Have you begun preparing for the inevitable transitions we all face as we age? Are you already dealing with aging parents who no longer can live alone without aid of some kind? Have your parents and you talked about issues such as possible changes in living arrangements, estate planning, government assistance, and keeping fit and healthy? Have you talked with them about what they want for themselves as they enter the final stages of life’s journey? These topics, and others like them, are often difficult to discuss. If you wait, though, the opportunity to discuss them may disappear.
