MC Teens Tikkun (grades 8-12)

mcteen Friends

MC Teens Tikkun is FVJC Emek Shalom's teen community that engages teens in a variety of ways to foster Jewish identity development, community-building, commitment to social justice and a deep connection to Jewish life. MC Teens is a safe, welcoming and supportive kehillah (community) where teens are empowered as learners and leaders by one another and by caring, dedicated clergy and faculty who serve as positive, accessible Jewish role models.

We honor post b'nai mitzvah teens as adults and meet the needs of their busy lives by providing a variety of options for engagement. We warmly encourage participants to engage in the the full variety of opportunities FVJC has to offer. Ultimately, we hope each teen will find meaningful engagement in Jewish life through this vibrant youth community and/or engagement in the broader Jewish community.

FVJC will be partnering with JTConnect to provide bi-monthly programming at FVJC. This exciting partnership will enable our teens to choose between various elective topics at any given time, furthering their Jewish learning, allowing them to benefit from the expertise of JTConnect’s established faculty, and ultimately giving them access to the broad array of social programs offered by JTConnect to other Jewish teens throughout the greater Hartford area.

Jon Rubin (a fellow congregant, past President, and father of two current MC Teens) and Todd Cooperman (another fellow congregant and father of two) are members of JTConnect’s Board of Directors and will serve, along with Rabbi Bekah, on an advisory board as liaisons for the program at FVJC.

The MC Teen schedule will remain the same as last year, one Sunday morning and one Wednesday evening per month.
  • On Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:30pm our teens will dine together with their friends and then learn with engaging educators in a variety of captivating classes geared toward their interests. From cooking to theology, there is something for everyone!
  • On Sunday mornings from 9:00-11:30am, teens will explore current social justice issues from a Jewish lens. Teens will put their passion into action by working directly with people and communities in need.
By combining teens’ intellectual curiosity with volunteer projects, we hope to create a community of young adults who care about the world around them and who actively take part in the project of Tikkun Olam – Repairing the World.

We are looking forward to an exciting year of MC Teen/JTConnect collaboration!
