MC Teens Tikkun (grades 8-12)
MC Teens Tikkun is FVJC Emek Shalom's teen community that engages teens in a variety of ways to foster Jewish identity development, community-building, commitment to social justice and a deep connection to Jewish life. MC Teens is a safe, welcoming and supportive kehillah (community) where teens are empowered as learners and leaders by one another and by caring, dedicated clergy and faculty who serve as positive, accessible Jewish role models.
We honor post b'nai mitzvah teens as adults and meet the needs of their busy lives by providing a variety of options for engagement. We warmly encourage participants to engage in the the full variety of opportunities FVJC has to offer. Ultimately, we hope each teen will find meaningful engagement in Jewish life through this vibrant youth community and/or engagement in the broader Jewish community.
MC Teens Tikkun is The FVJC Justice League
"It is not incumbent upon you to complete the work, but neither are you at liberty to desist from it" Rabbi Tarfon (Pirke Avot 2:21)
Jewish tradition implores us to pursue justice, repair the world and seek peace whenever possible. In our MC Teens Tikkun, you can join your friends in exploration of the most current social justice issues from a Jewish perspective. We’ll spend time learning together at FVJC and out in the Greater Hartford community, hearing from people doing cutting-edge work to repair the world and seeing first-hand what kind of a difference one person or a whole community can make. We will also prepare to attend the L’Taken Social Justice Seminar at the RAC (Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism) in Washington DC in March 2017. Join your friends for an amazing year of learning, community and advocacy in MC Teens Tikkun.
