Our service is rooted in Reform Judaism, combined with many elements of our rich and eclectic Jewish heritage. This offers a range of traditions and observance where any Jew might feel comfortable to pray. At all of our services, we encourage full family participation, to enhance the vibrant spirit of our worship together.

During Shabbat and Festival Services we currently use the "Gates of Prayer." In the next few months, FVJC-Emek Shalom, and Reform congregations across the country, will begin using a new prayer book, "Mishkan T'filah." Due for release in the coming weeks, "Mishkan T'filah" has been in the works for more than two decades. Click here to read more about the new prayer book.

We also utilize creative and new worship services written by the Rabbi and Cantor. We integrate Hebrew into our service and we vary our music in an attempt to formulate a unique blend of traditional and contemporary prayers. We encourage singing and participation at services and we are blessed with a highly innovative and talented Cantor who brings to our service not only flavor but also a rich variety of Jewish musical experience.

Our main service is on Friday evening at 7:30pm, at which time the Torah is read. Throughout the month, we also hold:

  • Family Worship Experience developed by the Rabbi, Cantor and religious school teachers specifically for family participation. Click here for more information.
  • "Kids Shabbat" program on the first Friday of each month, specifically designed to acquaint pre-school children and their families with prayer and the Sabbath. Click here for more information.
  • Kabbalah Shabbats the second Friday of each month, which begin at 6:30 p.m.
  • Music Shabbats, featuring Klezmer and other cultural favorites. Click here for more information.

Throughout the year, we host community-wide festivals to celebrate our varied cultural and historical holidays. Check out our calendar to find out what's happening next or click here to read more about our celebrations.

Our Evening Services are followed by an Oneg Shabbat. "Oneg" means pleasure and the sweetness of the Sabbath, and is continually tasted by our togetherness. On occasion, special programs are offered during the Oneg Shabbat to enhance our Jewish, religious and Sabbath experience.
