Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation – Emek Shalom is happy to announce that for the 2017 High Holidays it has engaged AudreyKlein to provide the spiritual and musical support appropriate for the most important days of the Jewish calendar. She has already begun working closely with Rabbi Bekah to maintain traditions and add new musical and spiritual moments to our services.
Audrey Klein will be ordained as a cantor in June from the School of Jewish Music at Hebrew College, Boston, MA where she will be receiving a Master of Jewish Education degree. Originally from Shaker Heights, OH, Audrey attended Northwestern University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in theatre. She was an active member of the Northwestern Hillel, serving on the executive board of the Jewish Theatre Ensemble, coordinating the Reform minyan, and leading service trips to Uruguay and Cuba. Audrey worked as a performer, event coordinator, and wedding consultant in Chicago before turning to the cantorate.
During her years at Hebrew College she was an active member of student government and sat on the Student Advisory Committee to the President of the College. She served as the cantorial intern at Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland, MA, in addition to teaching in the congregation’s religious school for three years. Audrey is currently completing her field work for her Master’s degree at Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto, serving as the Religious School Program Assistant.
For the past three years, she has served as the High Holiday cantorial soloist for the Greater Washington Coalition for Jewish Life near Litchfield, CT. Audrey currently lives in Toronto with her partner, Dr. Joshua Albert.
We look forward to spiritually inspiring High Holiday services this year with Rabbi Bekah, Cantor Klein and our choir.
